The XL2594-ADJ is a monolithic integrated circuit that provides all active functions for a step-down (buck) switching regulator capable of driving 0.5A loads with excellent line and load regulation. It is packaged in 8-lead PDIP and 8-lead surface mount SOIC packages.
The XL2594-ADJ operates at a switching frequency of 150 kHz, thus allowing the use of smaller filter components than required for lower frequency switching regulators. Due to its high efficiency, copper traces on the printed circuit board are usually the only heat sinking required.
Other features include an output voltage tolerance of ±4% over all input voltage and output load conditions, and ±15% of the oscillator frequency. An external shutdown is included, with a typical standby current of 85uA. Self-protection features include a two-stage frequency reduction current limit for the output switch and a thermal shutdown for full protection under fault conditions.
