The XD297 stepper motor controller IC generates four-phase drive signals for two-phase bipolar and four-phase single-pole stepper motors in microcomputer control applications. The motor can be driven in half-step, normal and waveform modes, and the on-chip PWM chopper circuit drive allows switching mode control of the winding current. One feature of this device is that it requires only clock, direction and mode input signals. Since the phase is generated internally, the burden on the microprocessor and programmer is greatly reduced. It can be used with monolithic bridge drivers such as ZX298 or XD293, as well as with discrete transistors and Darlington devices.
