The XL9910 is an open loop, current mode control, LED driver IC. The IC can be programmed to operate in either constant frequency or constant off time mode. It includes an 8.0-450 volt linear regulator, enabling it to operate from a wide range of input voltages without the need for an external low voltage power supply. The XL9910 includes a PWM dimming input that can accept an external control signal with a duty cycle of 0-100% and a frequency of up to several kilohertz. It also includes a 0-250 millivolt linear dimming input that can be used for linear dimming of the LED current.


The XL9910 is ideally suited for step-down LED drivers. Because the XL9910 operates in open loop current mode control, the controller achieves excellent output current regulation without the need for any loop compensation. The PWM dimming response is limited only by the inductor current rise and fall rates, achieving very fast rise and fall times. The XL9910 requires only three external components, in addition to the power stage, to produce a controlled LED current. This makes the XL9910 an ideal solution for low cost LED drivers.
