    The 8255 is the high-performance CMOS version of the industry standard, which is a general-purpose programmable I/O device that can be used with many different microprocessors. A total of 24 I/O pins can be individually programmed in 2 sets of 12 for 3 main modes of operation. The 8255's high performance and industry-standard configuration make it compatible with the 8086, 8088, and other microprocessors. The static CMOS circuit design ensures low power consumption. TTL compatibility over the entire military temperature range and bus holding circuits eliminate the need for pull-up resistors.
